Our Mission

Provide direction, guidance, and oversight of the Defense Production Act Title I and Defense Priorities & Allocations System (DPAS) to ensure availability of industrial resources for national defense.

The Defense Production Act Title I Office provides direction, guidance, and oversight for the Defense Production Act Title I and DPAS within the Department of Defense. The office assists program offices, suppliers, other government agencies, and partner nations when circumstances arise in which there are competing requirements at one or more vendors for a limited industrial resource. The Defense Production Act Title I office reports to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Base Policy within the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Sustainment.

Who We Are

The Defense Production Act Title I is one of three active authorities in the Defense Production Act, first signed into law in 1950 and renewed in 2018. DPA Title I provides the President broad authority to prioritize and allocate rated contracts and orders for materials and services to promote national defense. Specifically, DPA Title I ensures the timely availability of industrial resources to meet national defense and emergency preparedness requirements. The Department of Defense implements DPA Title I through the Defense Priorities & Allocations System (DPAS) to prioritize defense orders in support of programs of the highest national urgency that have demonstrated a need within the Industrial Base, ensuring programs experiencing disruption receive the appropriate prioritization to meet their program objectives in day-to-day operations and national emergencies.
