Fragility and Criticality (FaC) Methodology

In order to detect and prevent critical failures in the supply chain, the Department of Defense has implemented a collaborative, repeatable, fact-based DoD-wide capability to assess industrial capabilities that may be at risk. At the heart of this is the Fragility and Criticality (FaC) Methodology.

FaC PROGRAM AND METHODOLOGY OBJECTIVES

  • Integrate Industrial Base (IB) considerations into acquisition strategy decision making
  • Identify successful IB management efforts
  • Lead development and sharing of IB data
  • Standardize best practices in IB assessment

FAST FACTS:

  • Evolution of Sector by Sector, Tier by Tier (S2T2) Process established in 2011
  • FaC Pilot Program established in 2013
  • FaC Program adopted by the Joint Industrial Base Working Group (JIBWG) and is currently used across the DoD Services and Agencies
  • FaC methodology described in Defense Acquisition Guidelines (DAG)
